The Clean Bus Fund is helping Greater Manchester bus operators to upgrade to cleaner, compliant vehicles.
GM has secured £14.7m of Government funding to help GM's bus operators retrofit their vehicles to meet emissions standards and a further £3.2m to help small and medium sized operators to replace non-compliant vehicles which are too old or there is not a retrofit solution available.
In addition to Clean Air Plan funds, the following funding has already been allocated for Greater Manchester to upgrade its bus fleet:

The Greater Manchester region has secured around £15m funding to support the purchase of 70 ultra-low emission buses by the GMCA, Manchester Community Transport, Stagecoach Manchester and First Bus Manchester.

Greater Manchester secured £3m to upgrade the local bus fleet, targeted at air quality hotspots. The Clean Bus Technology Fund provided support to operators to retrofit their vehicles as follows:
- Phase 1: operators are currently retrofitting 111 vehicles at a cost of £1.9m, targeted at routes with locations of non-compliance; and
- Phase 2: to retrofit a further estimated 60 buses with the remaining funds.
