The government’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ) Framework requires that for setting up a CAZ it has to have signs in place to clearly mark the zone in order to remind motorists of the zone.
Due to the geographical size of the GM CAZ (almost 1,300km2) over 2,300 road signs and around 850 automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras are being installed.
The sign locations have been selected to include clear signing at the point of entry and exit into/from the charging CAZ. There are also signs in advance of entry, to provide drivers with advance warning of the zone. Once in the zone, there are reminder signs that zone ANPR cameras are in operation.
