Once implemented, Greater Manchester anticipates the Clean Air Zone will remain in full operation until at least the second half of 2026. If it is demonstrated by the second half of 2026 that two consecutive years’ of compliance with legal limit value for NO2 of an annual mean of 40 µg/m3 has been met, and there is confidence that compliance will continue to be maintained then, subject to GM governance processes, GM will notify the Secretary of State and request the removal of the legal direction, allowing the GM Authorities to decommission the Clean Air Zone
